In late 2023 Sydney-based window film company TintFX was contacted via referral by a building consultancy company with extremely specific requirements for their government client – Broken Hill City Council. The architects had specified a “3M Daylight Redirecting Film” for the Broken Hill Library in outback NSW, Australia, with the intention of redirecting the harsh sun away from the book resources near the perimeter, and across the ceiling to allow light deeper into the library.
The film had been discontinued a few years earlier, but TintFX held some of this specialty film in stock, and the Director suspected there were others like him holding stock on their shelves.
By using his industry contacts, TintFX Director Aaron McCarthy, found enough of this discontinued specialty film from two different suppliers, 3M itself, and Nathan Coward of Cooltone in QLD, to be able to guarantee this installation could proceed. The installation of the “Daylight Redirecting film” at the Broken Hill Library is scheduled for early 2025.
While it was fortunate that TintFX had these industry contacts, imagine how difficult this might have been without this knowledge. Surplus Eco Store now brings all these suppliers and installers together on one platform and will facilitate the sourcing of films and vinyls in a few simple steps.
